E-commerce Website Development: Why Professionals Should Take Care of It

The Internet has evolved greatly over the years. While at first it was only a tool for sending e-mails and sharing information, today it does much more than that. It is a way for working, sharing, and perhaps most importantly, trading.

E-commerce Website Development

E-commerce, the practice of selling and buying over the Internet, has become an important part of the world's economy. Goods and services are no longer available only locally; they can also be obtained from far away places.

One of the reasons of the success of e-commerce is the advances in online payment. One of the main obstacles for online trading was the natural mistrust of sending critical financial information over the Internet. A lot of people refused to buy online because they were afraid that they would be victims of fraud, or that their credit card information would be misused, or that they would be stuck with payments of a service even after they didn't want it anymore.

Fortunatley, just like banks, some sites and institutions have proven themselves as reliable and stable, and people can rely on them like they rely on Visa or Mastercard. And companies that sell their good or services over the Internet (and pity the company that doesn't) should make sure that their e-commerce website development integrates them.

That's perhaps the most important reason why e-commerce website development should be done by professionals. If a company lacks staff with the experience and knowledge needed for good e-commerce website development, then it should really consider hiring a contractor to do it.

Because of the high level of competition on an online market, e-commerce website development should be perfect from the first moment. All it takes is an error message, unclear instructions, or lack of information for a customer to take his or her money elsewhere.

Finally, a company that wants to save costs on its e-commerce website development can look for a developer in another country. Since websites can be designed and impemented at a distance, this gives a company a much wider range of options. Just make sure that the developer you hire is trustworthy and gives good quality.

Freelance Website Development - Is this a good strategy?
Hello! I'm a 17 year old freelance website developer, I've been doing this for nearly 3 years, I've never had a part time job this has always been my source of income and things are good, I've always had what I wanted :) I feel my skills are of a high enough standard now to branch out away from online clients paying just over £100 a job and go into the real world. I had an idea of going into my local town with my laptop and targeting small independent businesses with a sales pitch and a digital portfolio demonstration to see if I could hook them into wanting my services. Obviously my key selling point will be the high standard of my work in relation to my fee which will be a fraction of a professional companies. Is this likely to work at all? I honestly have no idea what to expect. Even if people here say no I'll still do it since there's nothing to lose but I just want to see what people think. Also, any advice or tips are very welcome!

PHP Developers and Magento Users: Please, I need an answer (opinion) quick here?
Okay, so I am a freelance developer. I am adept at HTML, CSS, JavaScript, but--even though I am a master of Java and C++--I still haven't really become a guru at PHP. I understand PHP and what it does and I have created some basic scripts for websites that I have created--mainly nav bar and mailing subscription stuff. Well, my problem is this. My friend referred me to a friend who needs someone who is skilled in PHP to do backend work with Magento (ecommerce web application). My friend told me to just go and do it and that I could easily pick it up (he is aware of my abilities with Java and other languages and thinks that because of my proficiency with the said languages, I would be able to pick it up right away). The problem is that I don't know Magento and I still need to refer to my PHP books or tutorials to do things, but when I do I understand them. This is a contract job and considering how bad the economy has been and that I have been out of work for a while doing freelance Website Development and Tutoring, I really sort of need this job. Would I be putting myself in a bad position if I told her that I can do the tasks she is looking for without knowing Magento and without being a guru at PHP? I really need this job AND experience. Please, be very honest and not snide, here. I am a smart, educated guy. What would you do if you were me right now?
