It is better to understand the meaning of web development first. Web development encompasses a wide arena of activities concerned with the development of the website for the World Wide Web or the Intranet. This technique involves ecommerce business development, web design, client-side / server-side coding, web design etc.
When a website is built, it involves several design as well as non-design aspects. For software professional, web development refers to the non-design aspects of developing a website. Web development has a wide range of activities and can serve the purpose of developing a single static page to complex web applications.
Web development requires tremendous technical proficiency, which is owned by skilled and dedicated software professionals. Web development has come a long way since its evolution. It is one of the rapidly growing industries in the world. The tremendous pace of growth of this sector can be attributed to those big corporate houses that intend to sell their products and services to their customers and also to the countless web designing and hosting companies operating all around the globe.
Web development has given rise to a revolutionary trend of internet applications via ecommerce solutions. Online transactions, shopping, banking etc are all so easy now due to ecommerce solutions. Apart from this, web development has also given rise to a new concept i.e., blog. Web development has succeeded in extending into new modes of communication via open source content systems such as Typo3, Xoops etc.
Web development also deals with other important aspects such as security. Components such as data entry error checking through forms are worked upon only by web development. It should be clear that the professional who carries out all these tasks is known as web developer. A web developer is entrusted with other professional responsibilities such as graphic designing or web designing, copywriting, project management, quality assurance etc.
The process of web development can well be compared to a pyramid. Like a pyramid, it also has hierarchy and can be categorized into different domains such as:
? Client side coding
? CSS
? XHTML
? JavaScript
? Flash
? Server side coding
? PHP and MySQL
? Java
? Python
? Ruby
With the ever expanding World Wide Web, people expect much more than just a visually appealing website. They wish to use the features offered by advanced web development. Advanced web development encompasses advanced web programming that aims at executing dynamic applications. These applications fulfill the growing business needs of the client on the web.
Advanced web development includes a vast domain of services such as:
? Advanced portal development

? Interactive components
? Integrity of interactive components for a better user experience.
? Web-enabling legacy applications

? Secure Intranets / Extranets
? Corporate knowledge management, collaboration and decision support systems etc
? Web-based database programming
? Complex databases, distributed servers, database optimization etc.
? Open source software integration
? Advantages of scalability, flexibility, cost savings etc.
Thus, we see that web development is an effective tool for online business that opens multiple revenue streams. So go ahead, make use of this advanced technology and reap huge dividends.

Please help me with my website?
I am 13. Over the summer, I want to start an online business. I am currently taking a Business Camp at my school. My ultimate goal is to make six or more figures a year, and become Financially Independent. I know it sounds crazy since I'm only 13, but it is my dream.
I have 2 major online business ideas that could work, but I need help choosing the one that would make the most money.
1. My first idea is a website where free users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. I would also have an area where users can post info and another area where bands can find new band members. To make money from the site, I would sell ad space, sell an ecourse on songwriting, and maybe creating a pro membership if the site becomes big enough. I have a problem though. Since I have no coding experience, I would have to hire a web design firm to create the site. The problem is that it might cost a lot ($100,000) to create the site. If it does cost that much, should i hire a programmer from elance or something like that? Thats how the website Digg was created. If it still costs a lot, should I have my parents apply for a loan from SBA?
Overview of #1:
Target Market: Musicians, Bands, Independent Artists, Songwriters.
Revenue: Ad space, Pro Membership
Costs: Website, Marketing, Website Matinence
Type of Business: Online Business, Online Company, Service Business
Idea #2. This idea is a basic business idea. I would create a basic website (not a webs.com type of site, but not a huge firm site). I would join a well reputated wholesale company that sells and dropships musical instruments. I would list the products on my site using an eccommerce section, and allow customers to make orders. I would price the products to make profit. When I get an order, I send the order to the wholesale company, and they ship the products within 24 hours. They are most likely always in stock, and will notify me of any problems.
Overview of Idea #2:
Target Market: Musicians, Bands, Independent Artists, Dj's, bass players, guitarists, drummers, keyboard players, lighting people, record producers.
Revenue: Profits from Products, Advertising on Website
Costs: Dropshipping, Cost of Products, Website, Website Matinence, Marketing
Type of Business: Online Business, Online Company, E-Tail Business, Retail Business, Ecommerce, Product Business.
Which idea do you like the best? Which idea do you think is most profitable?
If you think #1 is the best and most profitable....
Why do you think that? How should I build the website? Will the website cost a lot? Should a get a loan from SBA? Would people like this site?
If you think #2 is the best and most profitable....
Why do you think that? Do you think it is a good idea?
Please help me. Even if you don't think any of these are good ideas, if you had to choose one, which one would you choose?
Thanks!

Also, I just received a call from my grandpa saying he is willing to invest money into either one of my ventures. Another GREAT THING is that I just realized my cousin is finishing college and was in college for web design. Even if it is a not perfect site, it could be a prototype. Also, he wont charge to build the site. Let me know what you think!

How should I go about creating a website like this?
Over the summer, I would like to start an online business. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I am limited on cash for the start-up however. I have two ideas that I think have a lot of potential. Which idea should I choose?
1. A website where users can submit original songs (with copyright info for protection) and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with users. Users could also create a main page where they could post info, and find new band members with the band member finder. I would have contests throughout the site for users to enter. I would make money from selling ad space. Joining the site would be free, but if the site becomes big enough, i would add a pro membership where you get extra features. I think this idea is great since there is not much competition other than www.purevolume.com, and it would be a great way for bands, artists, and musicians to promote themselves and get feedback. Who knows, maybe a record label executive might wander around the site and find some hot new act. They could be the next big thing. The only problem with this site is that it would cost me 40-50 thousand to create using a web design firm. I just dont have that kind of money to spend right now. How should I go about creating the site? I have no coding knowledge. Should I hire a coder/designer/developer from elance or something like that? What would that cost? Would it be effective. Should I create the site with dreamweaver or drupal or wordpress?
2. My second idea is a website where users can list, sell, buy, auction, and trade websites. Sign up would be free and a user could list the website with info, and place a snapshot of the site. They would choose to either auction, sell, or trade the site. Once they sell the site, I would take a small 4% fee from the final sale. I would also sell ad space on the site. This site might be easier to build than the music site. However, i got quoted 30-40k to build the site from a web design firm. Again, should I hire someone from elance or something?
Which idea do you think is most profitable? Which idea should I do? How should I go about building the website?
PS. To earn extra money, I am signing up as a dealer for Kaeser and Blair, which sells promotional products to companies (pens, golf tees, merchandise with company logos on them). As a dealer, I sell to my clients, and make 25-50% profit on all sales. Kaeser and Blair takes care of manufactureing and shipping.
